If music causes your heart to beat 1,250 times a minute, it could be the beautiful hummingbird inside you trying to dance out.... or you could be having a real massive coronary.

What’s New this March?

Susannah and I invite you to dance in what will be our last set of workshops. We are so proud of all of you and humbled by your continued support. We are a dance school, but you have all become so much more than students. You are dancers, and watching you go into the world and dance fulfills our goal as Ballroom Blitz. It was always the intent to make dancing accessible, understandable and relatable. You are the embodiment of that spirit. For that, we are forever grateful.

Okay, with my emotional breakdown set aside, I must address ‘What’s New?’ in March. We are super excited about bringing back The Hustle and the Viennese Waltz, two dances which in the beginning were misjudged and scoffed at, but in the end proved all critics wrong.

$5 PRACTICE NIGHT 8-9:30PM – March 1st, 15th & 29th

THE LATIN WORKOUT – ONGOING ON THURSDAYS 4PM

The Latin Workout continues to burn calories Thursdays at 4pm. What exactly is this class? It’s a dance exercise class that includes the Merengue, Salsa, Cha-Cha, Jive & Triple-Time Swing, Samba, and Rumba. We even throw in a muscle isolation exercise and end with a cool down stretch. You will take about 5,500 steps in this one-hour class, so be ready to sweat and have a great time. Each session costs $14, or you can purchase a 6-Pack for $65.

MONDAYS STARTING MARCH 11TH

SALSA 7-8pm $45 for 4 weeks –Now a Monday regular, Salsa kicks off the new session at 7pm. This Latin dance continues to be one of our most popular classes. Beginners are welcome as we always start off with the basic steps before kicking in high gear with spicier amalgamations, making this also a favorite with our more advanced dancers.

AB301 8-9pm $45 weeks – This one hour class is especially designed for the experienced social dancer (post-AB201) ready to learn Continuity Style Ballroom dancing. The focus of this workshop is to improve dancer’s floorcraft and ability to navigate dance traffic through step substitutions. Permission is required for this class.

TUESDAYS STARTING MARCH 12TH

HUSTLE 7-8pm $45 for 4 weeks – I remember the scene in Airplane. The DJ proclaims, ‘WZAZ in Chicago. Where Disco lives forever!’ And the plane crashes into the radio tower. Everyone in the movie theater laughed because Disco was so yesterday. New Wave music was the new kid on the block and was here to stay… until Grunge and Techno. Well, Disco is back strong, and we can’t wait to Hustle with all of you.

WEDNESDAYS STARTING MARCH 13TH

AB101 @ 5:30pm-7pm $65 for 4-Weeks – This is our Genesis Project, where stellar dancers are born. It’s one thing to be good on the dance floor, but it’s another thing to have to dance attached to another body. The Adult Basic 101 is the class where you learn to play nice with others while dance the basics in the Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Swing, and Salsa. Couples dancing truly is the last bastion of human contact.

THURSDAYS STARTING MARCH 14TH

AB201 @ 7pm-8:30pm $65 for 4-Weeks – This second level workshop covers the remainder of the Bronze syllabus and introduces more technique and more sophisticated patterns to post-101 dancers. It is designed to be taken 5-6 times, so each 6-week session is different. Welcome 101 grads, you made it!

VIENNESE WALTZ @ 8:30pm $45 for 4 Weeks –We go with the Classy-Factor on Thursdays and dance the original Waltz. This stylish, rotating dance originated in the 1700’s and at that time caused a scandal, because of the proximity between the man and the woman. Until that time, couples danced…well not as a couple but more as part of a group, and the only things touching were their hands. Actual body contact was immediately judged to be immoral, marking the decline of civilization. Stay classy, Ballroom Blitzers.

As we approach the end of April, Susannah and I would like to introduce you all to fellow ballroom dancer Joel Solario, who owns and operates Baile Divino nearby in Glendale. He has used our studio as a home base for years so we know he is the right person for our Ballroom Blitzers. He can be reached at 818-861-6504 and emailed at joel@bailedivino.com. His website is Bailedivino.com.
