The Latin Workout is 60-minutes of non-stop dancing. It is chockfull of real Latin dance steps designed to get your heart pumping and legs driving. Along with the cardiovascular aspect, dancing will also tone and stretch your upper-body. A few years back, Susannah put on a pedometer for the Latin Workout (Tuesday at 3pm andThursday at 4pm). By the end of the hour, it read over 9,000 steps. Later, she discovered that the pedometer did not register any of the triple steps (in the Cha-Cha-Cha, Triple-Time Swing, and Jive). Thus, our Latin Workout is comprised of more than 10,000 steps. It’s a heck of a workout and a lot of fun.
On December 7th, 2014, I entered and finished a Spartan Sprint, which is a 3-mile, muddy, mountain trail run. A portion of this up and down madness included running with a 40-lb sandbag, scaling 8-foot walls, and crawling under barbed wire through mud (and painfully sharp rocks), up what seemed to be an endless hill. Aside from pull-ups, leg lifts, and burpees, my cardiovascular workout comprised of nightly dog walks and the Latin Workout twice a week. Not only did I survive the Spartan Sprint, I did so with lungs intact and ready for more. Don’t get me wrong, the Spartan is no joke, but I was aerobically prepared by walking and dancing. Would I have been in better shape if I had included road work? Definitely, but my routine was more than adequate. The Latin Workout is an excellent aerobic exercise regardless of your sport category. If you are a runner or a gym rat interested in building up your wind, the Latin Workout is a great supplement or change-up to your exercise regimen.
It costs $14 per session. You are welcome to take the class on Tuesdays at 3pm or Thursdays at 4pm. If you’re a workout fiend, take it on both days.
